Everything you need to get Gate routing your links — and where to reach us if something's off.

Set Gate as your default browser

Gate can only route links once macOS sends them to it. That takes one setting:

  1. 1 Open Gate — it lives in your menu bar, near the clock.
  2. 2 Click “Set as Default Browser,” then choose “Use Gate” in the macOS confirmation dialog.
  3. 3 Prefer to do it manually? Open System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser, and pick Gate.
  4. 4 That's it. Click any link and Gate takes it from there. You can switch back to another browser the same way, any time.

Some apps open links inside their own built-in browser and never ask macOS which browser to use — those won't pass through Gate.

Common questions

Gate isn't listed as a default browser option

Launch Gate at least once first — macOS only offers apps that have run. If it's still missing, quit and reopen Gate, then check System Settings → Desktop & Dock again.

How do I change or add rules?

Open Gate and go to Settings → Rules. You can build a new rule from scratch, start from a recipe, or turn any past link in History into a rule.

A link opened in the wrong place

Open History in Gate — it shows exactly which rule matched and why. From there you can adjust the rule or create a more specific one. More specific rules win.

Can I keep tracking parameters on some links?

Yes. Tracking-parameter cleaning (utm_, fbclid, gclid, and similar) is configurable in Gate's settings, so you can turn it off or fine-tune it.

I paid but Gate says the trial ended

Open Gate → Settings and choose Restore Purchases. Your unlock is tied to your Apple Account, so it restores on any Mac you're signed in to.

How do I change Gate's language?

Gate follows your macOS system language automatically. Change it in System Settings → General → Language & Region, then relaunch Gate.
